Does starting an online blog help you get recognized as a potential tabloid journalist?

I want to become a journalist preferably for top newspapers such as The Sun, The Daily Star etc. Gordon Smart is my role model and i really want to have a job like his. Will starting an online blog help me get recognizes as a potential journalist?
