Anyone out there that can help me with blogging?

I don't want to make money like everything suggests. I just want to make a fun cute site where friends and family can keep up to date with me. :) The problem is, I don't know the first thing about blogging! Several people i know do it, I've even created one. But I'm completely lost! How can I make my blog more interesting? Are there any extras anyone recommends? Basically, I just need tips! :P
